Simulated Disk/Tape Jukebox Technology Overview
QStar Simulated Disk or Tape Jukebox (SDJ/STJ) provides the ability to create a tiered storage architecture by implementing a virtual or pseudo library on magnetic disk storage. SDJ/STJ provides the ability to create real-time mirroring between disk drive based simulated libraries and actual removable media storage libraries to provide solutions to the most challenging network storage issues.
QStar's SDJ/STJ software provides the ability to manage physical disk space available on a magnetic disk drive (local disk, RAID, DAS, NAS) or hard drive based, write-once Content Addressable Storage (CAS) appliance as if it were media loaded into an actual library as an integral volume set. The local disk or write-once device can be partitioned to simulate virtual shelves in a library and allows full use of library commands and behaviors. In this way data stored on a CAS device can be mirrored to a storage library for disaster prevention applications with a significantly lower cost of ownership.
Many regulations require timely access to archive data. By managing archive data on a disk array or CAS appliance and mirroring that data to a removable media archive device, users gain faster access to compliance data by accessing it from the disk array or CAS Appliance. CAS devices provide fast and reliable archive storage in a revision secure environment, and QStar provides the user with the ability to mirror data managed by the CAS device. The QStar SDJ/STJ features allows users to further protect archive data by writing a second copy either to another hard disk or CAS device or to an optical or tape storage library. Should the CAS device fail for any reason, data is still accessible from the secondary device. This extends the level of protection beyond a single appliance for a more robust archive disaster prevention plan.
QStar's SDJ/STJ software is available for Linux, UNIX and Windows environments and support locally attached, RAID, NAS, CAS, Optical and Tape storage systems.
What Environment Best fits SDJ/STJ?
