Content Addressable Storage (CAS)
Imagine if you could find any piece of company information at any time, regardless of whether it was in a searchable database, a random PDF file, or an aging legacy system. CUC Solutions' content addressable storage technology makes all of your data searchable and accessible, allowing you to quickly scrub your network for hard-to-find data.
With easy-to-access information, your company can:
- Meet new government compliance regulations, stating data must be provided within 48 hours of request.
- Find legacy data to provide details of an old transaction or client account.
- Collect a complete history on an employee or customer for legal or internal reasons.
- Gather all available information on a particular topic, aiding in research or reporting.
CUC's unique content addressable storage system saves storage space by identifying duplicate information and deleting multiple copies. This system can save your company 60% or more of their storage space over the course of just six months.
Fewer instances of identical files:
- Reduce network traffic
- Speed up all levels of data retrieval
- Reduce off-site bandwidth for disaster recovery applications
- Reduce storage hardware costs
CUC's content addressable storage minimizes replication of files by assigning each file a unique digital fingerprint using advanced MD5 and SHA1 hashing algorithms. If the data within the file is unchanged, the fingerprint also remains unchanged even if the file name is altered. This system allows for true version control - backing up only versions of the file that include modifications.
- Reduce File Duplication By 1000:1

Example: Your financial institution is working on a new set of 8 process documents. These documents are sent to 11 managers for review. At the end of the day, a traditional backup system would make 96 copies of the files (8 x 12). That's one copy for every email that was sent, plus the original copy.
At the end of each day, a new backup copy is created. After 26 days, your institution has copied the original file 2,496 times.
If the 600 other employees at the institution have also distributed 8 copies of a document during this time, 1,497,600 backup files have been created.
But how many of these files did you really need?
You needed only copies of the original files, plus two additional copies per file for disaster recovery purposes. That's a total of 14,000 copies needed - not 1,497,600.
Using CUC's content addressable storage solution, you backup only the files you need.
